Advice for Alfalfa and Grass Haylage Management

Alfalfa and grass haylages not only provide beef and dairy cows with a steady supply of protein, but they also can be a cost-saving for producers. PROVITA SUPPLEMENTS Forage Specialist, Caitlin Mellinger spoke with National Association of Farm Broadcasters (NAFB) to discuss the benefits of these haylages and share tips on harvest hygiene. 


When you have a really high-quality protein source that you grow from your own forage, you are able to cut back on
expenses of protein concentrates and feed input costs. That’s really important right now because the price of feed is going up, said Mellinger.
